Healthy Cities Onkaparinga (formerly Healthy Cities Noarlunga) is a coalition of agencies and community members which addresses health issues using the World Health Organisation’s ‘Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion’ as its primary reference. Healthy Cities Onkaparinga has developed a process that provides community members with the opportunity not only to raise important health issues with representatives from the public and private sector, but also the opportunity to work with these groups to address the health issues.
Healthy Cities Onkaparinga is an incorporated non-government organisation, directed by a Management Committee, with eight community members and seven members from organisations and agencies committed to promoting the health of the Onkaparinga community. HCO has links with the City of Onkaparinga, the Southern Adelaide Health Service and Flinders University.
Healthy Cities Onkaparinga is a founding member of the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC) in the Asia-Pacific region and through this forum we strengthen our ties to other Healthy Cities in our region. We are also founding members of the Australian Chapter of the Alliance. The Australian Chapter received formal approval following submission of an activity report for 2007-2008.
